Tata Steel and MCB save 186 tons of CO2 together with steel transport on biodiesel

MCB in Valkenswaard and Tata Steel Nederland have entered into an agreement to replace the transport of steel products to Valkenswaard by diesel-powered trucks with biodiesel. Tata Steel supplies steel to MCB from both IJmuiden and Tata Steel Tubes in Maastricht. This means that many road kilometres are now being made more sustainable. Converted to CO2
emission reduction, this represents a reduction of 186 tonnes of CO2
emissions per year. This is a reduction of 90% of the original CO2
emissions from transport.

MCB in Valkenswaard and Tata Steel Nederland have been partners in the steel value chain for decades.

Mirenka Fortuin, Director Sales and Marketing Engineering at Tata Steel Nederland states:

With our growing Zeremis® solutions , we are on our way to a CO2-neutral, circular world together with our customers . We are delighted that MCB, a long-term partner of ours, has opted for reduced-CO2 steel and low-CO2 transport .

Tata Steel supplies MCB with steel coils and tubes, which are further distributed by MCB to various customers for a multitude of applications. Erik Spikmans, Sales Director of MCB about the collaboration with Tata Steel Nederland: “We are very pleased with this next step that seamlessly fits in with our sustainability ambitions. In addition to our CO2 reduced products and Wood4Wood, we are now also realizing CO2 reduction on our transports.”

In addition to Zeremis Delivered, also Zeremis Carbon Lite from Tata Steel

The reduction of CO 2 emissions in the transport chains between Tata Steel Nederland and participating customers has been laid down in a ‘Zeremis Delivered’[1] agreement. The steel buyers will receive independently verified CO2 reduction statements. This major step towards making mutual transport more sustainable is in addition to the Memorandum of Understanding that MCB and Tata Steel Nederland previously agreed on for the supply of CO2 reduced steel and pipes.
