Jord and Votion Biorefineries Partner to Convert C4-Grass Biomass into Biocrude and Sustainable Aviation Fuel

This collaboration aims to accelerate the global energy transition and reduce carbon emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as transport, aviation, and chemicals.

About Jord and Votion Biorefineries

Jord specializes in cultivating and commercializing C4-grass biomass and solid biofuels, grown on marginal or degraded lands in Senegal and the Dominican Republic. This fast-growing biomass sequesters carbon, regenerates soils, and serves as an ideal feedstock for renewable energy applications.

Votion Biorefineries, founded in 2022, is a Swedish company committed to combating global warming through scalable and feedstock-flexible biorefinery technologies. Votion converts sustainable biomass into advanced biofuels, SAF, renewable chemicals, and valuable by-products like fertilizers and biogas.

Driving the Green Transition

By combining their expertise, Jord and Votion aim to:

Accelerate decarbonization in the energy and aviation sectors.

Develop scalable, profitable solutions for high-yield biofuel production.

Foster socio-economic development in the regions where they operate.

Anders Edling Hultgren, CEO at Votion Biorefineries, stated :

This partnership is a tremendous opportunity to advance innovative solutions in the biofuel industry.

By integrating Votion’s cutting-edge biorefinery technologies with Jord’s sustainably cultivated biomass, we are establishing a scalable model for impactful energy solutions that address the urgent need for decarbonization. Jord’s cultivation of C4-grass on marginal lands in regions like Latin America and Africa already creates significant climate benefits by improving soil health and capturing atmospheric carbon. Together, we will transform this renewable biomass into biocrude, sustainable aviation fuel, and other biochemicals, turning it into a pivotal driver for cleaner energy and reduced emissions across aviation, transportation, and the chemical industry.”

Peder Dagsánth, CEO at Jord AB, added:

At Jord, we are committed to rebalancing the carbon cycle and fostering sustainable growth in communities where we operate. Partnering with Votion Biorefineries allows us to expand the impact of our C4 grass biomass and take a significant step toward transforming global energy systems.

Strategic Initiatives

Through this collaboration, Jord and Votion will:

Develop a joint market offering that combines sustainable biomass supply with advanced biocrude production technologies.

Explore opportunities for establishing Votion’s biorefineries in Jord’s production regions, creating localized supply chains and reducing emissions from transport.

Investigate the performance and techno-economic conditions of Jord’s C4-grass biomass in biocrude production processes.

Collaborate on business models, financing strategies, and customer acquisition for the joint offering.

Work towards commissioning the first biomass-to-crude (BTC) facility within eight years, targetting markets heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
