New plant in Mafra reinforces the concept of circular economy at JBS and is in line with the Company’s Net Zero 2040 commitment.
JBS Biodiesel is expanding its operations with a new biodiesel plant in the city of Mafra, Santa Catarina. With an investment of R$ 180 million, the new plant doubled the company’s biofuel production capacity, a unit of JBS Novos Negócios.
The new investment reinforces JBS’s circular economy concept and is in line with the commitment to become Net Zero in 2040.

The new plant, jbs biodiesel’s third in operation, has a total area of 76,000 square meters and a production capacity of approximately 370 million liters per year.
With the new plant in operation, JBS’s total biodiesel production capacity jumped from 350 million to about 720 million liters per year, an amount equivalent to just over 10% of the 6.76 billion liters produced from biofuel in 2021, according to data from the National Agency for Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

“With this new investment, we reinforce the importance of the circular economy for our business and add value to the waste of our operations, contributing to sustainable development”.
The city of Mafra was chosen because it has easy access to rail and road modals, due to the proximity to the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), one of the main diesel mixing and distribution units in the country, and quick access to the port of Paranaguá, paraná, the third largest in Brazil.
The operation of the plant will generate up to 400 direct and indirect jobs, benefiting the economy of the western region of Santa Catarina.
To produce biodiesel in Mafra, JBS Biodiesel will use as raw materials reclaimed frying oil and soybean oil from grain crushing for the production of bran that feeds poultry and pigs.
With this, the company strengthens the diversification of raw material sources, since today it is the world’s largest vertical producer of biodiesel from bovine tallow.
JBS Biodiesel’s choice to expand its biodiesel market presence is in line with JBS’s Net Zero commitment, which aims to zero the balance of emissions related to its value chain by 2040. In addition to Mafra, the company has a biofuel unit in Lins (SP) and another plant in Campo Verde (MT).
