Foment del Treball will fly more sustainably with Sustainable Aviation Fuel supplied by Vueling
- With this agreement, a pioneer in Spain, Vueling will supply the European airport network with the amount of SAF necessary to mitigate the emissions generated by the travel of Foment del Treball employees and managers.
- Foment del Treball will become the first Spanish employer to use SAF to mitigate the footprint of its corporate travel
Vueling, a company belonging to the IAG group, and Foment del Treball have agreed to promote the use of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) with the aim of moving towards the decarbonization of air transport.
This agreement, pioneering in Spain, represents a key step in the decarbonization of business travel through the supply of SAF , an alternative to fossil fuel that is already available but needs to scale up its production.
Specifically, Vueling will calculate the emissions of Foment del Treball employees and managers produced by their air travel and subsequently supply the equivalent amount of SAF to the airport network in Spain. This mechanism helps mitigate the carbon footprint associated with these trips .
SAF, a more sustainable fuel than kerosene, has the potential to reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 80% throughout its life cycle, establishing itself as an essential tool in the transition towards a more sustainable future for the aviation sector.
Vueling continues to make progress in increasing the volumes supplied so that, together with the IAG group, 10% of total fuel consumption is achieved by 2030, practically double what the European Union requires.
A model for corporate sustainability
This agreement seeks not only to reinforce Vueling and Foment del Treball’s commitment to sustainability, but also to serve as a reference for other companies. The use of SAF allows organizations to mitigate their carbon footprint, while aligning their corporate strategies with the growing social and regulatory demands in terms of sustainability.
Franc Sanmartí, Director of Sustainability at Vueling, highlights :
With this agreement, at Vueling we reaffirm our commitment to the decarbonization of aviation, demonstrating that SAF is a solution for companies that want to travel with their environmental impact,
“We are very proud to expand our collaboration with Foment del Treball and invite other organizations to join this initiative. This agreement not only responds to the growing expectations in terms of corporate sustainability, but also marks a clear path for more companies to adopt concrete measures that allow them to mitigate their environmental impact and contribute effectively to the fight against climate change”.
For his part, the director of Sustainable Development of the Catalan employers’ association, Salvador Sedó, points out:
At Foment del Treball we reaffirm our commitment to sustainability and the decarbonization of air transport.
“This agreement with Vueling allows us to take a step forward in reducing our carbon footprint and, at the same time, serve as an example for other companies. It is essential that the business sector gets involved in the transition towards more sustainable models, and the use of SAF represents a real and available solution to move forward in this direction.”
