Chandra Asri Group Invests in Biofuel Raw Material, Partners with Biofront.
PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group) — a leading provider of energy, chemical, and infrastructure solutions in Southeast Asia — recently reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the renewable energy sector in Indonesia by partnering with Biofront to invest in the procurement and collection of raw materials for biofuels.
Biofront is one of the world’s largest waste-based raw material collectors. The partnership marks Chandra Asri Group’s commitment to expanding its environmentally friendly business portfolio and Creating Shared Value (CSV) sustainability programs. This collaboration highlights the Chandra Asri Group’s active involvement in circular economy initiatives while securing essential raw materials for a potential bio-refinery that will support biofuel production.
According to Chandra Asri Group’s Director for Human Capital and Corporate Affairs, Suryandi, the partnership with Biofront represents a significant milestone in the Group’s commitment to sustainable growth.
Suryandi, Chandra Asri Group’s Director for Human Capital and Corporate Affairs, said:
This collaboration aligns with Chandra Asri Group’s strategy to diversify through environmentally friendly business initiatives, reinforcing the company’s dedication to sustainability and environmental management.
“We see bio-based raw materials, such as Bio-Naphtha, as crucial for facilitating the industry’s transition to more sustainable practices. The renewable naphtha produced from UCO offers a practical solution for industries aiming to minimize their carbon footprint. Additionally, this initiative plays a vital role in promoting a circular economy by optimizing resource efficiency. We are also excited to explore future collaborations in other sectors of the circular economy, such as used tires and plastic waste recycling,”
TUKR (tukr.co.id) is one of the leading used cooking oil collectors in Indonesia, operating across major cities.
TUKR collaborates to sustainably and responsibly manage used cooking oil generated from food production in restaurants, hotels, malls, and more. This oil is then sent to bio-refineries to produce environmentally friendly fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
TUKR seeks to eliminate improper disposal of cooking oil waste, reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, and support broader adoption of renewable fuels as substitutes for fossil fuels. TUKR handles the entire process, from oil collection to storage, processing, and final delivery of the used cooking oil itself.
Fahad Farooq, Chief Executive Officer of Biofront Commodities, stated that this partnership underscores the important relationship between raw material collectors and bio-refineries in the green fuel sector, where access and security of raw materials are critical.
Fahad Farooq, Chief Executive Officer of Biofront Commodities, stated:
Chandra Asri Group’s regional presence and expertise in chemistry and logistics provide Biofront with an advantage in collecting, storing, and distributing raw materials, allowing us to directly supply Chandra Asri Group with essential inputs for bio-based production.
“We are also committed to developing waste streams and alternative materials with Chandra Asri Group in Indonesia, including used tires and plastic waste collection as well as pyrolysis oil production, all aimed at further reducing carbon emissions through the utilization of abundant but underutilized local waste,” Fahad explained.
Chandra Asri Group has also successfully obtained the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), a globally recognized certification for environmentally responsible production. This certification confirms that Chandra Asri Group’s facilities meet the requirements for processing plant-based raw materials into bio-based products such as Bio-Propylene, Bio-Ethylene, Bio-Crude C4, and Bio-Pygas. This achievement reflects the Company’s dedication to sustainable sourcing, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting closed-loop systems that minimize environmental impact.
Chandra Asri Group’s investment in raw material collection through this partnership strategically positions the Company to capitalize on the rapidly growing market. It ensures a stable supply of raw materials for future biofuel production, strengthens Chandra Asri Group’s sustainability goals, and solidifies its position in the renewable energy sector.
