CAC Builds Biofuel Plant for OMV in Schwechat. Chemical plant construction Chemnitz (CAC) was commissioned by OMV with overall responsibility for the construction of a biofuel plant. With this project, CAC is implementing one of the first plants in Europe to use innovative co-processing processes to process biogenic inputs together with fossil oil-based raw materials in a hydrogenation plant.
The international oil, gas and petrochemical company based in Vienna is investing 200 million euros for the conversion at the Schwechat site (Austria). It thus follows EU requirements that biofuels meet strict environmental and social criteria throughout the supply chain.
Up to 360,000 tons of fossil CO2 according to OMV, the hydrogenated vegetable oil saves annually. This corresponds to the annual emissions of about 200,000 cars with about 12,000 kilometres driven per year.
The product meets the highest quality requirements and can be used in all vehicles without any problems. The technology is not limited to the use of vegetable oil. Waste-based (such as .B used cooking oil) and advanced insoles are also possible and are also used, subject to availability. OMV expects to increase its demand for hydrogenated biofuels tenfold by 2030.
Jörg Engelmann, Managing Director CAC:
With this project, we are taking another step towards sustainable mobility together with OMV
“Only with technology openness can we quickly and sustainably protect our climate.”
CAC assumes overall responsibility for all phases of the project, including detailed engineering including project management and project controlling, procurement services and site management.
This includes the supply of equipment and bulk materials (pipelines, instrumentation, electrical engineering material) as well as responsibility for construction and assembly services.
