AMAGGI will have the first 100% B100 biodiesel farm.

AMAGGI will take another important and innovative step in the strategy of decarbonizing its operations. From March 2024, the company will have the first farm where biodiesel (B100) will be the only fuel used in the operations’ machinery. The B100 will be used at Fazenda Sete Lagoas, in Diamantino (MT), in partnership with the manufacturer John Deere.

Fazenda Sete Lagoas has 3,600 hectares and produces soy and corn. The soy-based B100, which will supply the property’s machinery, will be produced by AMAGGI itself, at its biodiesel factory in Lucas do Rio Verde (MT).

Having a farm operating without the use of fossil fuels meets the company’s socio-environmental objectives.

Judiney Carvalho, executive president of AMAGGI said:

One of our goals is the decarbonization of our business, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“AMAGGI always works towards honoring sustainability commitments and initiatives such as Fazenda Sete Lagoas are an example of this”, he adds.

This initiative is also in line with what was discussed at COP28, which took place in Dubai between November 30th and December 12th: countries must make the energy transition and increasingly reduce the use of fossil fuels. Deep, rapid reduction

Judiney Carvalho also highlights that there is a very important synergy in the company’s business. The B100 produced at the AMAGGI factory uses raw materials from the grain crushing industry, also owned by the company.

“This same fuel will be used to supply our road fleet starting next year and, soon, we will extend this use to our river fleet”, details Carvalho.

The choice of Sete Lagoas Farm to be the first to operate entirely with B100 biodiesel was due to its environmental relevance, as its area is home to one of the springs that form the Paraguay River, a watercourse that crosses the Cerrado, Pantanal and Chaco biomes, and is one of the most important in South America.

PARTNERSHIP

The company’s tests to operate with the B100 began in March 2022, at Fazenda Itamarati, the company’s largest, in Campo Novo do Parecis (MT). In total, there have been almost 20 thousand hours of machine operation using biofuel, which attests to the safety and effectiveness of its use.

The progress in the work counted on the important partnership of John Deere, one of the main manufacturers of agricultural machinery, heavy construction machinery and implements in the world.

Adilson Butzke, Sales Director of the John Deere Construction Division for Latin America said:

We represent a company that seeks to offer the best to its customer and is not limited to just the product or business areas, but to the entire community and the planet.

“In this sense, John Deere engines are capable of being powered by biodiesel. This initiative reinforces our daily commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as contributing to increasingly sustainable agriculture”,

The operation with B100 at Fazenda Sete Lagoas will begin after approval from the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP). AMAGGI’s request to the municipality will be made soon, after due authorization to be issued by the competent environmental body.
